Maths Cookies

July 2, 2009

Finally… it’s made it ’round to my turn to bring food for our Friday arvo maths class.

I was actually gonna just buy some biscuits, but because of preceding weeks of people putting their heart and soul into baking homemade treats for us… i felt obliged to fulfill my duty…

And despite disastrous attempts on previous occasions, i dragged myself to Coles at 9AM (which was surprisingly a damn long walk), bought my cookie mix, bought half a roast chicken (my lunch people.. my lunch) and waited in line at the cashier, where a man realised he didn’t have enough money to pay for his selection of hams bought from the deli section.

Half an hour later, a very tired me made it to school for 2 classes and an intense Karaoke session.

And hence began my dismal attempt to make chocolate chip cookies.

I read the instructions. < That wasn’t actually the hard part. Surprisingly.

So yeah… i figured it wasn’t too hard. I mean, all i had to do was mix one egg and butter into the provided mix.

That was before i realised that i didn’t have 80g of butter… i had about 2 tablespoons…

so i just replaced it with some milk =__=”

It was then when i put my hands in and started.. iuno.. pounding at it? That’s what the instructions said at least… But it was kinda runny.. and it was all sticking to my fingers… I could have sworn that the directions said that it was supposed to be a thick dough.

Oh sh^t. I did randomly put in extra milk.

Well, it sorta got better… but it was still sticky.

But i preheated the oven anyways, and pulled out the metal tray in my oven.

And that’s where issue no.2 hit me.

The tray had effing indentations in it. It was like a series of squares within squares.

So the biscuits would have pretty much have had uneven bottoms.

But my grandma suggested that i use some metal plates and cake tins lying around and such.

=__=” so i emptied out the pantry and pulled out:

  • 1x non-stick cake tin
  • 1x 20cm diameter plate
  • 1x 35cm diameter plate
  • 2x elliptical shaped plates

The darn metal plates all had patterns etched into them (slightly better than the tray though)…

Anyways, i scooped the batter onto the plates and tried shaping them. I don’t know how masterchef people can do this so quickly, but it took me close to 10 minutes doing 4 cookies. Seriously, i now know that giving them 1 hour to cook a dish is inhumane.

Gah! i had to keep track of how long each damn plate was inside the oven… X__X”

Issue No.3 was that… cookies started out HUGE.. i didn’t mean for them to turn out that big…

And i found that.. i was running out of batter…

AND I NEEDED 16 COOKIES!

So they progressively got smaller and smaller.

The plates and cake tin were too small

And so the cookies stuck together…T^T”

Plus, i had issues dislodging them from the plates… the cake tin was no prob coz it was non-stick.

They should seriously advertise normal metal plates as: stick! do not bake cookies with me.

Because i crushed my first cookie while trying to yank it off the plate.

Which led to me carefully trying to pry the edges loose with a butter knife.

I crushed two more after this.

One in which I ate.

My dad took another.

My bro decided he’d eat one too.

So i had less than 16 cookies!

Luckily for me, i had a packet of triple choc cookies in my pantry.

Which have now joined my batch of freshly made choc chip cookies.
